Cliff Weigelt, the plant manager at Peckham Industries in Pleasant Valley, plays a pivotal role in overseeing operations at both the quarry and the blacktop plant. Under his management, the company, celebrating its 100th anniversary, has flourished and expanded, emphasizing both community involvement and environmental responsibility. Weigelt shares that Peckham has grown to include over 42 sites and plans to expand to 4,000 employees by 2025, spreading from Rhode Island to Massachusetts.
Peckham Industries doesn't just focus on business growth; it also invests heavily in community engagement. The Peckham Family Foundation is a significant part of their effort, handling numerous charitable donations and community projects. Weigelt explains, "We've had, like I said, and we've given out some serious, serious money... It wasn't just a localized donation." This highlights the extensive impact Peckham aims to achieve through its philanthropic efforts.
Moreover, the company goes beyond generic corporate responsibility by creating memorable experiences for its employees, such as shutting down operations to celebrate their centenary with a two-day event in New York City, including a dinner cruise and a private party at the Museum of Natural History.
Peckham's commitment to the community is evident in its wide array of contributions ranging from local sports teams to significant infrastructure projects and educational outreach. The integration of community feedback into their operational changes showcases their dedication to being a good neighbor and improving the areas where they operate.
Weigelt's leadership and the company's initiatives reflect a deep commitment to both the growth of their operations and the betterment of their community, embodying their philosophy of expansion paired with responsibility.
