Santa's Special Delivery: A Heartfelt Food Drive with Keith O'Hanlon

Aired December 15th 2024

This holiday season, the Pleasant Valley Rotary is hosting a unique event called the "Tip the Truck" food drive, bringing together community spirit and festive cheer to support those in need. At the center of this heartwarming affair is none other than Keith O'Hanlon, known affectionately around town as Santa Claus, thanks to his genuine snowy beard, kind eyes, and jolly persona.

Keith O'Hanlon has been donning the red suit since 2015, finding his calling in bringing joy not only to children but also to veterans through various community service activities. His portrayal of Santa began quite unexpectedly when he was requested to step in for a holiday event organized by Angela Flesland at Liberty Station in Poughkeepsie, an initiative aimed at fulfilling the Christmas wishes of local veterans and their families.

Beyond his seasonal role, O'Hanlon is deeply committed to the Vet2Vet program, which pairs veterans with peers who understand the unique challenges faced by those who've served in the military. This program emphasizes the power of shared experiences and mutual support, reflecting O'Hanlon's dedication to his fellow servicemen and women.

The upcoming "Tip the Truck" event, scheduled for December 21st at the Acme Food Center in Pleasant Valley, invites the community to contribute non-perishable food items and pet food. Notably, O'Hanlon doesn't just arrive in a sleigh; he makes his grand entrance in "Lucy Doocy," his 1970 military truck, ready to be filled with donations that support the local food pantry and animal companions of those in need.

Keith O'Hanlon's portrayal of Santa Claus goes beyond the traditional role. He actively participates in the collection and distribution of donations, adding a personal touch that resonates with all who meet him. His commitment to service shines through his every action, whether he's interacting with children, supporting veterans, or helping feed families during the holiday season.

This event not only fills trucks and bellies but also hearts, as Keith O'Hanlon reminds us all of the joy of giving and the importance of community during the holiday season and beyond.
