In the vibrant community of Millbrook, the Millbrook Rotary Club, led by dedicated members like Mona Staaf-Gunther and Michelle Del Valle, exemplifies Rotary's commitment to service and community engagement. Mona, with years of Rotary experience, and Michelle, the club's president and a relatively new member, are driving forces behind the club's impactful activities.
One of the Millbrook Rotary Club's significant annual projects is the production of the Millbrook Business Directory. Now in its 22nd year, the directory not only serves as a crucial resource for the community but also as the club’s major fundraiser. Michelle Del Valle explains the directory’s importance: "Without the money that we make from all the wonderful advertisers, we wouldn't be able to do anything." This endeavor is not only a fundraising tool but also a way to engage with and support local businesses, with the directory featuring over 150 advertisements.
The funds raised are substantial, aiding the club in supporting various community projects. "Last year we grossed over $50,000," Mona reveals, emphasizing the project's success and its contribution to funding numerous community initiatives. These funds support diverse projects, including educational support like providing school supplies and scholarships, addressing food insecurity through initiatives like the Millbrook Community Refrigerator, and supporting literacy by distributing dictionaries to third graders.
The Millbrook Rotary Club’s commitment to community is further illustrated by their revival of the beloved New Year's Eve Millbrook event. Spearheaded by Michelle and her team, the event is a celebration that brings the community together with activities and entertainment suitable for all ages. From live music and puppet performances to refreshments provided by local veterans, the event showcases the Rotary’s role in fostering community spirit and engagement.
Through these endeavors, the Millbrook Rotary Club not only supports its local community but also builds a network of support and collaboration that exemplifies Rotary’s mission of service above self. The club’s efforts demonstrate a deep commitment to making a tangible difference in Millbrook, enriching the lives of its residents through both celebration and service.
