Aired May 5th 2024
Ariadne Montare, the president of the Red Hook Rotary Club, excitedly shares the vibrant community spirit of Apple Blossom Day, an annual event hosted by the Rotary Club in the Village of Red Hook. Scheduled for May 11th from 10 AM to 4 PM, the event is perfectly timed the day before Mother’s Day, offering a wonderful opportunity for last-minute gifts through a variety of craft vendors. Ariadne highlights, “It brings the community together,” emphasizing the inclusive celebration that features entertainment stages for music and dance performances.
This year, attendees can look forward to an array of musical acts, including the return of local favorites like the Stringmasters and the McCannagh band. New to the event are dance group performances which will fill the intervals between music sets. “We are going to have bands as we usually do… and what’s new this year is we’re going to have dance groups on our little stage,” Ariadne explains.
Food also plays a big part in the festivities, with options ranging from traditional American fare to Ukrainian specialties by Authentic Eats by Oleg. Ariadne excitedly shares, “We’re going to have the mobile kitchen back from Red Hook Responds… and, you know, giving us basic American fare.”
Aside from the fun and food, Apple Blossom Day serves as a platform for various non-profit organizations to engage with the community, providing information and raising awareness about their causes. The event is not just about entertainment but also about community service and engagement, reflecting the Rotary’s mission of service above self.
Ariadne also takes a moment to explain the essence of Rotary: “Rotary is a local service organization and we focus on our communities… from cleaning up highways to providing scholarships to high school students.” This statement captures the broad spectrum of activities and initiatives undertaken by the Rotary to support and uplift their community.
Apple Blossom Day, as described by Ariadne Montare, is more than just an event; it's a celebration of community spirit, local culture, and mutual support, encapsulated in a day of fun, food, and fellowship.
